I've found that if you want to get a parrot to start eating a healthy pellet based diet, there are some simple to follow strategies to getting the bird to start eating food it originally refuses to touch.
For example, here's how you can get your parrot to start eating the pellets. Parrots love bread… as do a LOT of birds. So what you can do is bake up some muffins. But leave all the unhealthy
stuff out of them like all that butter.
Then take some organic pellets and baked them right into the muffins; chunks and all.
Now I know that you wouldn't touch these muffins with a 10 foot pole, but you'll be suprised when you see your bird start digging right into the muffin and every now and then. They just can't help but accidentally eat one of those pellets… because you've crammed a lot of them in there; and he can't eat these muffins without getting at least a few pellets down his throat.
The key here is to hide healthy stuff you want your parrot to eat inside of tasty things they like. Over time, the bird realizes the pellets in the muffins are good, or at least he realizes that he can eat them if he's really hungry.
This helps wean birds onto a healthier pellet based diet… and if you're bird's struggling with this same problem I'd suggest taking this approach.
It also works with scrambled eggs pretty well too… most parrots love scrambled eggs. You can get a bird to eat all sorts of things if you chop it up small enough and mix it in with scrambled eggs.
